Sports Psychology
Sport psychology is a proficiency that uses psychological knowledge and skills to address optimal performance and well-being of athletes, developmental and social aspects of sports participation, and systemic issues associated with sports settings and organizations.
Sport Psychology interventions are designed to assist athletes and other sports participants (e.g., coaches, administrators, parents) from a wide array of settings, levels of competition and ages, ranging from recreational youth participants to professional and Olympic athletes to master’s level performers.

HBH Program Implementation Information and Timelines
The goal of this program is to help athletes with performance enhancement by working through clinical and counseling issues with self as well as social issues related to sports participation and outcomes.
Many strategies and procedures are used to address problems faced by athletes and other sports participants. Some of the principal areas include:

Palatine Amateur Football Association Board Member for six years. Where I served as Vice President for two years and President for two years.
Head High School Boys Volleyball Coach for Eleven years.
Girls Volleyball Coach for three years.
High School Football Coach for four years.
Coached a variety of youth sports for fifteen years.
Coached and worked with many collegiate athletes as well as athletes that have participated with national teams.
Father of five children who are all heavily involved in multiple levels of the “psychotic” travel sports world.
Licensed Professional Counselor since 2008 (Received my Clinical License in 2013) where I have worked with numerous adolescents, young adults, and parents in a variety of settings working through a variety of needs.

- Cognitive and behavioral skills training for performance enhancement
- Goal setting; imagery and performance planning; concentration and attention control strategies; development of self-confidence, self-esteem and competence in sports; cognitive-behavioral self-regulation techniques; emotion management, sportsmanship and leadership skills.
- Counseling and clinical interventions
- Athletic motivation; eating disorders and weight management; substance abuse; grief, depression, loss and suicide; over-training and burnout; sexual identity issues; aggression and violence; athletic injury and rehabilitation; career transitions and identity crises.
- Consultation and training
- Team building; sports organization consultation; systems interventions with parents and families involved in youth sports participation; education of coaches regarding motivation, interpersonal and leadership skills and talent development; education of coaches and administrators regarding early identification and prevention of psychological difficulties.
